WHO IS AN ATIO CERTIFIED TRANSLATOR?

Have you ever wondered why there aren’t many ATIO certified translators?

Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario ATIOBefore delving into that, let’s first understand who a translator is.

A translator is a skilled professional who converts text from one language to another while preserving the original content’s meaning. Their main objective is to facilitate communication between individuals who speak different languages. Translators handle a diverse array of materials, such as books, documents, websites, software, speeches, and more.

The translation process involves several crucial stages, including reading the source text, grasping the intended message, and effectively conveying that message in the target language. To ensure the accuracy and context of the original content, translators must possess a deep understanding of both the source and target languages. Furthermore, they need exceptional writing skills in both languages to produce translations that are precise, clear, and culturally appropriate.

In Canada, each province has an Association of Translators and Interpreters. In Ontario, we have the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO). The association doesn’t offer training; instead, it evaluates the qualifications and capabilities of candidates to ensure they are already accomplished translators. From my personal experience, I had to demonstrate my academic qualifications in the field, present a solid portfolio of at least 500,000 words translated in a specific language combination, and pass two rigorous exams. As you can imagine, obtaining the certification was a long process.

Since ATIO endorses a translator’s skills, many organizations insist on ATIO-certified translations to guarantee exceptional quality. Some notable examples include Immigration Canada, www.drivetest.ca, World Education Services www.wes.org, universities, and even potential employers.

Whenever I translate a document, I bring all my expertise, attention to detail, and knowledge to serve you better and help you achieve your goals.
